Fact Sheet
Description
Short Description (80 chars)
Read it as a roguelike, write it by hand. Japanese kana, 2,126 kanji, N5–N1.
Standard Description
Kana Conbini has two ways to learn Japanese. In Conbini Run, a roguelike convenience-store game, you serve customers by matching kana and vocabulary cards, build combos, and learn to read along the way. In Write Kanji 書き取り, a dedicated handwriting mode, you trace characters by hand in the correct stroke order — and the guides fade as you improve.
Every character and word is voiced in native Japanese, and FSRS smart spaced repetition decides what to show you next. Cards carry visual mnemonics whose hints fade as you master them, so the more you play, the more Japanese sticks.

- Native Voice - Every word and character voiced in native Japanese
- Smart Reviews - FSRS spaced repetition; visual mnemonics whose hints fade as you master them

The Story
Kana Conbini was born from a simple question: What if your Japanese textbook was actually a roguelike card game?
Created by a solo developer who loves Japanese culture but struggled with traditional learning methods, Kana Conbini combines the addictive "one more run" feeling of roguelikes like Slay the Spire and Balatro with effective language learning techniques.
The convenience store setting was chosen because it's full of everyday vocabulary. Plus, there's something comforting about the vibe of a konbini at night.
"I made this because I kept starting and stopping Japanese, gave up many times. The concept 'lose but want to keep playing until you win' was interesting. It makes you try harder every time. What if there was a language game like that?" - billbkk, Developer
